Pros and Cons of Having Dental Procedures done in Thailand

When it comes to dental care, a lot of people are considering going to Thailand for procedures. In fact, it has been dubbed as the “Land of Smiles” in one online community – and for good reason. There are a lot of advantages that one can reap when choosing the “go abroad for procedures” option. But, in order to set expectations and to paint a clearer, more realistic picture of what it really means to get dental work in Thailand, we also need to consider the cons.
Here are the Pros and Cons of having dental work done in Thailand :

PROS

  • Costs lesser compared to the US, Australia or London. It’s no secret that dental procedures, as well as other medical or surgical procedures, cost a lot less in Thailand. For example, a teeth cleaning might cost around $80-$90 in the US but it only costs $25-$30 in Thailand.
  • Equal, if not better, standards of hospitals and clinics as in the West. Most hospitals in Thailand are very clean and they have been built with efficiency in mind so it’s always easy to get around. Another plus is that most top hospitals in Thailand don’t even look like hospitals. They look more like hotels thus the term: luxury hospital.
  • Bangkok International Dental Center BIDC
Higher standard of customer service. Generally speaking, most staff, receptionists and nurses don a smile on their faces. Their friendlier and more patient.
  • Lesser waiting time (with a paper, a cup of coffee and free internet). Since these hospitals are built for efficiency, people don’t really have to wait long for the doctor or for their lab results to come out. If there is waiting involved, the staff will make sure that you’re comfortable by offering a newspaper and a free drink with free internet to boot.
  • Modern equipment. Thailand’s top hospitals and clinics are also equipped with the modern machinery. The standards of cleanliness and service are high so the same is to be expected with the equipment.

CONS

  • There’s going to be travelling involved. Because it is still considered a trip, you’ll have to go through all that hassles of packing, booking, walking, queuing and all the other stuff that goes with travelling to another place.
  • Bangkok International Dental Center BIDC
Services are not easily accessible. This one is a given since you have to travel a number of miles before you can actually undergo whatever procedure you need doing. Let’s say you chipped your tooth. You can’t exactly go next door and have it fixed.
  • Effort is required when preparing. You have to go through the necessary steps before you actually go: deciding which hospital or clinic to go to, deciding who your doctor will be, the number of days that you need to stay, your clothes and etc.
  • There are a lot of options to choose from. This may be a good thing or a bad thing for you but we labeled this as a con because it’s sometimes hard to narrow down your choices and you have to invest a good deal of time to do that.

TIPS

  • Stick to top, more international hospitals.
  • Get more information by asking.
  • Always do your research even if it takes a while.
