South Korea x Thailand:
It seems like Thailand is soon to be
graduating from its internship with South Korea in the field of
cosmetics and aesthetics. The land of smiles, which from the past few
years have been an ace for medical and cosmetic tourism globally is getting a wider stretch.
With all eyes in Asia, competition in
the cosmetic tourism industry is getting consequently stiffer as
years turn pages, and superior South Korea has got something to worry
about now that Thailand is wanting a piece of her piece.
So how has South Korea inspired Thailand?
With so many factors to consider: an individual's unique standard of beauty, media, and culture; all of these may have the crumbs to trace back where this beauty craze started.
With so many factors to consider: an individual's unique standard of beauty, media, and culture; all of these may have the crumbs to trace back where this beauty craze started.
In Asia, having more arrows pointing
toward the southeast, having snow-white skin is a huge determinant of
outer beauty. Fairer skin (would) tend to be more attractive in the
eyes of the demographic.
The subsequent result? In Korea, Japan and
most of the northern Asia where most people genetically have lighter
complexion, are now being the gauge of beauty standards and usually looked upon
by most of Thais and the rest of SEA(southeast asia).
The southeast has been on years of
extensive learning, trying to decode the whitening secret of Koreans
which apparently, and somehow is an inherent gift of genetics- But
who says it's impossible? Thai doctors have brought home with them the knowledge and technology from all over the world including South
Korea. Whitening treatments, pills, cosmetics are now on the market
and is tagged cheaper but are equally as effective as what
competitions offer.
Just how many clinics in Thailand are
offering procedures named as such:
Korean style rhinoplasty
Korean-white system
Korea nano white
These Korean variation of cosmetic procedures might just be a "goodie" marketing
strategy for businesses, but nevertheless, it would still be patronized as long as the whitening wave and cosmetic culture stay in Thai atmosphere.
Grocery?-- Forget the Kimchi
Over-the-counter beauty products such
as whitening lotions, creams etc. that are made from Korea, with a
South Korean flag and writing printed on the packaging appears to glow more in the eyes of buyers. These imported products started the
fanfare; gaining the trust of consumers with the promise of flawless Korean
beauty.
But who says Thailand is falling short
in this? Thailand hospitals, clinics, and pharmaceuticals are already
producing their own line of cosmetic products and is also
well-favored locally. For example, Yanhee, a recognized international
hospital in Bangkok for cosmetology has their products shelved in
7/11's across the country; an indicator that locally-made products can also make an appeal to the masses.
Skin deep beauty, precisely
Thailand has not hit the breaks yet
with just whitening pills and procedures under its belt. Cosmetic surgery is a big
trend in Thailand regardless of age and sex. South Korean
celebrities, pop stars, even commoners, that display doll-like facial
and body features in daily publicity has influenced a great number of
Thais to recreate themselves physically to get the look.
With the high demand of cosmetic
surgery in Thailand, there's no need for Thais to fly overseas for
aesthetic procedures. Hence, foreigners are now turning their heads
to Thailand for cheaper and efficient cosmetic tourism. Thailand has
now got highly-skilled, internal calibur surgeons that can do all the
magic.
If this trend and the Thailand's good reputation and competitive pricing will stay on the same track ,
cosmetic tourism will continue to bring a big bag of fortune to Thailand economic-wise and medically-wise.
