Vacationing, either by yourself or with loved ones,
somewhere far from home is always a real treat. Packing everything you think
you might need is always an experience in itself and, of course, there’s the
act of X-ing out each day in your calendar, eagerly awaiting the day when
you’re officially on vacation mode. You’d have to admit, these pre-sojourn
efforts are fun to do an all but the real fun actually lies on what you
decide to do with your time while on vacation.
You might be thinking that knowing what to do will come naturally. It might but most of the time people are programmed to have a tourist mentality. What ends up happening after your vacation is you realizing that you didn’t get the full experience that you were hoping for.
To avoid this, we have a few suggestions:
1. Taste the real food.
Regular restaurants are easy to find especially when you
vacation somewhere famous. Some restaurants do embody the essence of the place
you’re at but if you want food that’s authentic, sometimes the best places to
search for them may not be in fancy restaurant at all.
TIP: Try food carts or small restaurants that all the locals go to. Eat the food that nobody will eat.
2. Indulge in Spa Packages.
This suggestion may sound very typical but it would be a new
experience if the spa package is unique like if the spa is offering a
traditional Thai massage combined with special therapies. For example, there is
an “after sun” spa package and there’s also the Suvarnabhumi spa package which
is signature to a specific spa center.
TIP: Check out
reliable booking websites so you can easily choose, book and compare the spa or
beauty service that you want.
3. Try new activities.
There are more than a dozen activities that you could do
when in a new city but what you can focus on are the activities that you do not
normally do. Instead of going to the mall or checking out famous tourist spots,
why not try something random like playing golf or trying out aerial dancing.
4. Meet the locals.
Now this one might be difficult to do but if you have an
outgoing attitude you’ll meet locals soon enough. If meeting new people and
having a conversation isn’t your thing, then this is your chance to get out of
your comfort zone. You’re on vacation anyway, right?
5. Let things happen.
When on vacation, the tendency is to plan everything out and
stick to the schedule. Sometimes not planning at all makes things more
memorable. It’s alright to plan things out but sometimes you need to understand
when to let things happen or when to allow things to fall into place so don’t
stress over the small mishaps.
“Live a Little”
This is the line that you need to tell yourself. You’re on
vacation! It’s a great chance for you to say yes to living! Don’t be afraid to
dive in to new experiences and get a little R&R.
